ARLINGTON, Texas – A Texas father detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement won’t be allowed to attend his son’s funeral.

The family of Maher Tarabishi said ICE officials denied his request to attend his son’s funeral.

His 30-year-old son died last week after a lifetime battle with a rare disorder that causes severe muscle weakness and heart problems.

Tarabishi was detained three months ago during a routine check-in.

He was his son’s sole caregiver, and the family said his son’s health declined without his care.

According to its website, ICE policy allows detainees to visit critically ill family members and attend funerals if they are escorted by immigration officials.

But the family said requests to let Tarabishi see his son before he died and to attend his funeral were both denied.

The family’s attorney called the decision inhumane.
