Dallas could soon offer 10 electric vehicle charging stations for public use at five libraries and five recreation centers.

On Monday, during the Parks, Trails and the Environment Committee meeting, members were briefed on the approval of a grant of about $645,600 from the Federal Highway Administration’s Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Community Program to fund the stations.

The grant approval comes as the city seeks to expand access to sustainable transportation through additional electric vehicle charging sites.

“I am very pleased to see that the city has followed through on this,” council member Paul Ridley, who represents District 14, said. He later questioned if the chargers would be ready by the end of the calendar year.
