Collin County

1. Allen road safety projects

The project: The city of Allen is using Texas Department of Transportation grant funds to improve 16 intersections.

The update: Only three intersections have not been completed, but work on them begins in February. The remaining intersections to be improved will be Century Parkway and Bethany Drive, Greenville Avenue and Bethany Drive, and Greenville Avenue and Main Street.

2. First Street widening

Project: First Street will be widened from a two-lane rural roadway to a four-lane divided suburban roadway between Dallas North Tollway and Coleman Street. The project includes concrete curb and gutter roadway, underground drainage improvements, and water line.

Update: The project is in the pre-construction phase.

3. Legacy Drive widening

Project: Legacy Drive is set to be widened and reconstructed from Lebanon Road to Stonebrook Parkway, and Stonebrook Parkway to 4th Army Drive.

Update: The project is in the design phase and is expected to start construction later this year.

Tarrant County

4. North Carroll Avenue

Project: The work will focus on the Lake Wood Drive and SH 114 intersections, including hardscape improvements and traffic signal upgrades. Drivers can expect daytime lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m Monday through Friday along North Carroll Avenue between Lake Wood Drive and SH 114.

Update: The project paused in November, and new intersection design options were brought to Southlake council, but no changes were made to the construction plan. The work resumed Jan. 5.

5. John McCain Road

Project: The work includes widening the drainage tunnel on Big Bear Creek west of Monticello Parkway, making improvements to the roadway curve along John McCain and Stillwater Circle and replacing the driveway, roadway, curbs, gutters and storm pipes on the bridge.

Update: Construction started on the project Jan. 5.
