The Fort Worth area is banking on film productions being its next big export, and its biggest champion, Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan, has taken full advantage, making the north Texas city the base of operations for his ever-growing slate of streaming shows. After filming in downtown Dallas a few weeks ago, Sheridan has shut down some streets in Fort Worth to film his espionage thriller, Special Ops: Lioness.
In early October, rumors spread that Lioness may have beenfilming in downtown Dallas and the surrounding areas. Production vehicles bearing the show’s name were spotted, and the crew members were seen all around the downtown area wearing credentials. The show was not confirmed to be the Nicole Kidman-starring special forces drama, but all the evidence pointed towards Lioness. (Kidman coincidentally also was seen in Dallas days earlier, presenting Sheridan with an award at a charity gala.)

This week, it’s official, as roads in downtown Fort Worth have confirmed to be closed for yet another stretch of filming for the Sheridan production. The Paramount+ series will film its third season downtown from Oct. 23 at 6:30 p.m. until Oct. 24 at 6 a.m., the city shared. The impacted streets include: Main St. between 5th and 6th St; Main St. between 7th and 8th St; and 8th St. between Main and Houston St. Fort Worth police officers will be onsite to assist in maintaining traffic flow. During the shutdown, all local businesses will stay open.
According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the road closure map suggests that the nearby Hilton Fort Worth hotel will substitute for the Hay-Adams hotel in Washington, D.C., given that several of the characters in the geopolitical spy drama are headquartered in the country’s capital.
Starring Kidman and Zoe Saldaña, the plot of Lioness is based on the CIA’s eponymous program, which embeds its female agents in terrorist groups in order to infiltrate and destroy them from inside.
Filming for Sheridan’s popular oil drama, Landman, has also been taking place in Fort Worth. Frost Tower, the Worthington Renaissance Hotel, and 61 Osteria are among the downtown locales used for season two of the Billy Bob Thornton-led series. The second season of the show was also filmed at Texas Christian University and other residential locations in communities like Camp Bowie.
Numerous Yellowstone related projects, including the last season of Yellowstone and other spin-offs, have also been filmed in Fort Worth. It’s all part of Sheridan’s ongoing commitment to fully utilizing Fort Worth for his television enterprises. In June, he leased two giant studio spaces in partnership with the property development firm Hillwood. Now, Sheridan and his production partners are planning an even bigger studio space, one eight times larger than the 450,00 sq ft space that was already the largest in Texas. The new studio will be complete with several sound stages, and all the necessities of any good film and television production.
