For true Texans, there’s no such thing as “too much barbecue” or “too much convenience.” And now, for grocery shoppers at one of the Hill Country’s swankiest H-E-B locations, there’s about to be a bounty of smoked meats.

According to a new filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the San Antonio-based grocery chain is planning a $2 million expansion at H-E-B Fair Oaks, located in the 118-acre Lemon Creek Ranch development, which includes designs for a 4,465-square-foot True Texas Barbecue restaurant and dining area. State filings are subject to change.

True Texas BBQ was named the best BBQ chain in Texas by Texas Monthly Barbecue Editor Daniel Vaughn in 2019. Vaughn praised the restaurant for its “artful” arrangement of sides, “impressive” brisket and consistency. Fair Oaks Ranch is a small community located near Boerne in the Texas Hill Country. The new restaurant will be a first for the Boerne area.

The restaurant serves barbecue staples like chopped brisket and smoked turkey sandwiches, loaded baked potatoes, brisket beans, creamed corn, home-style potato salad and more.

Construction crews will build the new eatery as an addition to the existing building.

Per the filing, work is scheduled to run from June 1 to September 25, 2026.

H-E-B has roughly a dozen True Texas Barbecue locations in and around the San Antonio metro, including locations in Helotes, Bulverde, Stone Oak, Schertz, Kerrville and New Braunfels.

Located between Boerne and San Antonio, the Lemon Creek Ranch shopping and housing development is fueling Texas Hill Country sprawl from the metro area through its burgeoning retail buildings, office space and new residences. Plans for the development include hundreds of townhomes, a hotel and luxury apartments.

H-E-B has confirmed plans for the new restaurant at its Lemon Creek Ranch location, but did not share any further details or timelines on its opening.
