The woman who died in a field during the winter storm in Fort Worth last week has been identified, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.

Geneva Pena Contreras, 68, died around 3:51 p.m. on a soccer field, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Fort Worth police officers were called to the 2900 block of E. Seminary Drive around 4:41 p.m. in reference to an unresponsive woman in a field, according to a previous statement.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene, and Contreras was pronounced dead, police said. Her death is believed to be related to cold weather.

During the last week of January, an arctic blast hit Texas, bringing ice and bone-chilling temperatures. At least 12 people died across the state — seven of those in North Texas — ranging in age from 6 to 78.

Police said homicide detectives were notified, which is normal protocol when investigating deaths.
