EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CB4) — El Paso City Representative Ivan Niño is spearheading a new initiative to combat illegal dumping across the city.

The proposal, known as Title 33, aims to launch a citywide public awareness campaign and form partnerships with local cleanup organizations.

Niño emphasized the importance of community involvement, stating, “It comes down to all of us as a community to come together to really just clean up and help our community become more beautiful.”

The plan includes giving city staff, including police and code enforcement, up to 90 days to develop recommendations.

Niño highlighted the severity of illegal dumping, noting it is a Class C misdemeanor with fines up to $10,000.

More severe cases, especially those involving hazardous waste, can lead to felony charges and jail time.

Local organizations like El Paso Trashmob, Desert Rescue, and Sun City Pickers are actively seeking volunteers to assist with cleanup efforts, particularly for elderly, disabled, and veteran residents. Niño is committed to supporting these groups and developing a long-term strategy to address the issue.

Residents are encouraged to report illegal dumping by calling 311, and city officials urge the community to participate in upcoming cleanup events to help keep El Paso clean.
