El Paso, TX (KFOX14/CBS4) — The El Paso Humane Society is advising pet owners on how to keep their furry friends safe and calm during Halloween festivities.
Robert Shammy, executive director of the Humane Society, highlighted the importance of keeping high-energy dogs, like Callie, a two-year-old mixed breed available for adoption, calm amid the excitement of trick-or-treaters.
“If you can keep them inside, it’s better because that’ll keep them a little bit more calm,” Shammy said.
He also recommended spending time with pets when the doorbell rings and avoiding yelling at them.
Shammy warned against giving dogs chocolate, which can be poisonous, and suggested healthier alternatives like apples and carrots. “Candy is not the best for your dog,” he said. The Humane Society encourages pet owners to prioritize their pets’ safety and well-being during the holiday.
