EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A burglary response in El Paso turned violent when a suspect struck an officer with a vehicle.

On Jan. 29, officers were dispatched to a burglary of a habitation in progress on the 10900 block of Yogi Berra Cir.

Upon arrival, they approached a vehicle believed to be connected to the incident.

The driver, identified as 21-year-old Angelo Ramon Zuniga, refused to comply with officers’ orders to turn off the vehicle, police officials said.

Officials said Zuniga struck a 7-month veteran of the El Paso Police Department with the vehicle, causing minor injuries.

The injured officer was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Zuniga fled the scene but was later apprehended by the Lonestar Fugitive Task Force.

He faces charges of two counts of aggravated assault against a public servant and evading arrest or detention with a vehicle.
