As El Paso Independent School District ramps up its new superintendent search, the public will have its turn to sound off on the district CEO in a series of meetings.
While the EPISD board has not confirmed any names that have applied for the position, it has noted its goals to double down on academic improvements in a growing district. The community meetings will also provide an opportunity for the public to discuss their concerns about issues related to past district leadership.
When will EPISD hold meetings?
They will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 28, through Thursday, Oct. 30, for Districts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and Districts 6 and 7. One midday session and one evening session each day will provide two attendance options for each one-hour meeting.
Spanish interpreters will be available at every session. They will be held at the following locations:
Oct. 28 – 1:30 p.m. at Guillen Middle School at 900 S Cotton St.
Oct. 28 – 5:30 p.m. at Hartley Elementary School at 1110 S Park St.
Oct. 29 – 1:30 p.m. at J.M. Whitaker Elementary School at 4700 Rutherford Drive
Oct. 29 – 5:30 p.m. at Bobby Joe Hill Elementary School at 4860 Tropicana Ave.
Oct. 30 – 1:30 p.m. at Polk Elementary School at 940 Belvidere St.
Oct. 30 – 5:30 p.m. at Don Haskins Elementary School at 500 Mulberry Ave.

Latest on EPISD superintendent search
Dr. Jack Loveridge, vice president of the EPISD School Board, said the process to find a replacement was underway after former Superintendent Diana Sayavedra accepted a retirement settlement in June in a mutual separation from the district.
“We’re early on in the process, so the EPISD Board of Trustees still doesn’t know who has or hasn’t applied,” Loveridge said. “The goal is to have someone in place for the new calendar year. We went with Texas Association of School Boards, and they work with us to write the job posting and open it to a national search, even though they focus on Texas candidates.”
That started “over the past several weeks,” Loveridge said, with the job posting set to close in early November. At that point, the full board will review the applications for the vetted candidates.
The projected salary is negotiable with the selected candidate and could range between $300,000 to $500,000 annually. Sayavedra’s salary was just slightly more than $320,000.
