TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Crimson Tide looked to rebound on Wednesday night after getting embarrassed by the Florida Gators in a 100-77 loss on Sunday, taking on the top team in the SEC standings in Texas A&M. The Aggies (17-4, 7-1) sat atop the SEC standings as we reach the halfway point of the SEC schedule. Meanwhile, Alabama (14-7, 4-4) rested at a tipping point, with the Crimson Tide’s next two games coming against opponents ahead of it in the SEC standings (Texas A&M – No. 1, Auburn – No. 8). The matchup with the Aggies could prove pivotal for Alabama’s season, but which way would Alabama lean on Wednesday night in Coleman Coliseum?

The first half saw a contentious, back-and-forth game between the Crimson Tide and the Aggies, with neither team able to pull away, despite both holding a multi-score lead in the first half. The Aggies were hot from three-point range in the first half, shooting 45%, and were led by former Alabama player Rylan Griffen in that department, as Griffen was 2-3 from three-point range. Marcus Hill was the Aggies’ first-half leader with 10 points.

Meanwhile, Alabama shot 33.3% from three-point range in the first half, with Latrell Wrightsll Jr. leading the way in that department with nine points on 3-5 shooting from deep range. Alabama’s scoring came from multiple departments, with London Jemison leading the way with 10 points as the freshman was perfect from the floor and from three in the first half. The Biggest story of the first half was the departure of star guard Labaron Philon, who left the court, favoring his left leg late in the first half. Philon did start the second half for Alabama.

The second half saw a scrappy Texas A&M team go toe to toe with Alabama, who matched the physicality after the first few minutes of the second half. The scoring came from multiple angles for the Crimson Tide, with Houston Mallette heating up from deep range, despite playing with four fouls for much of the second half. Mallette fouled out with three seconds left in the contest.

Alabama’s backcourt duo of Labaron Philon and Aden Holloway led the way in the second half, with both players making major contributions, Philon from range and Holloway at the free-throw line. Philon was 3-4 from three-point range in the second half after going 0-3 in the first half, while Aden Holloway was 5-6 from the free-throw line in the second half. Philon ended the night with 17 points, while Holloway ended with a team-leading 20 points.

Holloway and Philon put Alabama on their backs in crunch time for the Crimson Tide, culminating in an and-one opportunity for Holloway that sealed the game on an acrobatic layup as the buzzer sounded for a shot-clock violation.

In total, six Alabama players ended the night with double-digit points in the 100-97 victory over Texas A&M, which was the top-seeded team in the SEC standings entering Wednesday night:

Aden Holloway: 20 points
Labaron Philon: 17 points
Latrell Wrightsell Jr.: 16 points
Houston Mallette: 12 points
Amari Allen: 12 points
London Jemison: 10 points

Alabama advances to 15-7 (5-4) in the season as we reach the midway point of the SEC schedule. The Crimson Tide’s next game will come on Saturday, February 7, against the Auburn Tigers in Neville Arena.
