Angelo Ramon Zuniga was arrested on aggravated assault against a public servant charges for allegedly hitting an El Paso police officer with a vehicle on Jan. 29, 2026, in Northeast El Paso.
The incident occurred about 3:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, when police were dispatched on a call of a home burglary in progress in the 10900 block of Yogi Berra Circle in the Cooperstown neighborhood, stated a news release issued by Detective Judy Oviedo, a police spokeswoman.
Two officers — one has seven months with EPPD, the other has a year — went up to a vehicle in the area to check to see if the driver was associated with the burglary call, police reported.

“As the officers approached the vehicle, they observed the windows down and told the driver, Angelo Ramon Zuniga, to turn off the vehicle. Zuniga refused to stop and in doing so struck one of the officers with the vehicle,” which fled the scene, a police news release stated. The officer was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
The U.S. Marshal’s Lone Star Fugitive Task Force later located and took Zuniga into custody. An investigation continues to determine if Zuniga was actually involved in the initial burglary call, Oviedo said.
