13-year-old girl stabbed to death, 10-year-old boy detained: HPD

  • February 5, 2026

HOUSTON – An investigation is underway in northwest Houston after authorities say a 13-year-old girl was killed in a stabbing. Houston Police have a 10-year-old boy detained.

Police said they received a report of a large fight and stabbing outside of an apartment in the 8000 block of Grow Lane around 8 p.m. Wednesday night.

Responding officers said they found a 13-year-old girl who had been stabbed at least one time. Emergency medical personnel took the girl to the hospital where she later died.

HPD Lt. Larry Crowson said they believe the 13-year-old girl was part of a larger group of 20 to 30 people who came over to the apartment and started “assaulting people.” Allegedly, the incident stemmed from an earlier disturbance at school that involved several teenagers, police say.

At the scene, officers spoke with a mother and her 10-year-old boy who said he stabbed the girl. The boy allegedly turned himself over to officers, claiming self-defense.

Homicide detectives are at the scene interviewing witnesses and looking for surveillance video of the incident.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office will decide if the 10-year-old boy will face charges.

In Texas, the minimum age for juvenile criminal responsibility is 10 years old.
