Spring-Like Temperatures Ahead

  • February 5, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Thursday through Saturday will be some of the nicest weather we’ve seen in a while. Temperatures will be mild, sunshine plentiful, and not much in the way of breezes. There is, however, a slight chance of showers later in the forecast.

A Little Colder Tonight

Tonight will be clear and cold, with lows very near average for early February.

The brisk northerly winds of this afternoon will continue to diminish this evening, shifting to the west after midnight, keeping conditions calm.

Much Warmer Thursday

After a cold early morning, tomorrow brings quite a warm up to the South Plains area. A sunny sky and westerly wind, around 10 to 15 mph, will contribute to high temperatures around 10 to 12 degrees above today, which also will be about 10 to 12 degrees above average.

A pleasant change from tonight’s chill.

Even Warmer Friday and Saturday

The pleasant weather continues Friday with sunny skies and highs in the 70s. Perhaps even better, not much wind. Winds will be light, generally less than 10 mph, shifting from northwest in the morning to southwest in the afternoon.

Clouds will increase late Friday, Friday evening, but the dry weather will continue Friday night. And it won’t be as cold with lows from the mid-30s to low 40s.

Even warmer Saturday. Though there will be a mix of sun and clouds, temperatures will edge up. Right now, the highs I expect are the warmest here since the start of the year. Winds are anticipated to pick up slightly.

At the moment, both Friday and Saturday look great for outside pursuits. Especially each afternoon.

Still Mild

Though Sunday is likely to be mostly cloudy, it will remain dry and highs will remain well above average for the time of year. Still more Spring-like than Winter.

So You’re Saying There’s A Chance

A weather system still over the Pacific Ocean will bring a chance of rain showers to the KCBD/FOX34 viewing area late Monday through late Tuesday.

Based on data available late today, the chance of significant rainfall is quite low. If it does rain, it is likely to be sparse.

Of course, there are miles to cover and days still to go. Watch for potential updates.

On This Date

On this date in 1961, heavy snow began in the Panhandle and spread south into the Big Bend. Over the next two days the snow spread as far east as Dallas. Although all of the South Plains and Rolling Plains received heavy snow, the greatest totals of 8-12 inches fell in the eastern TX Panhandle with similar amounts farther south near Sweetwater.
