Texas A&M battled until the final seconds against Alabama in Tuscaloosa, but the Aggies eventually dropped their second Southeastern Conference contest of the campaign, 100-97, at Coleman Coliseum on Wednesday night.

The closely-contested battle between the two projected potential March Madness squads was tied at the half, but the Aggies came out of the second period firing on all cylinders to establish a lead over the Crimson Tide. The massive nine-point swing gave Texas A&M much momentum, led by guard Zach Clemence’s two three-pointers.

Alabama quickly snatched the lead back, however. A 16-6 run over the Aggies sparked another massive momentum shift, but this sequence by guard Marcus Hill and Josh Holloway tied the game at 91 with two minutes remaining in the game, before Texas A&M fell into foul trouble late.

Another impressive shooting performance was not quite enough to topple the Crimson Tide, who had six players record double-digit points in T-Town. Texas A&M shot 49% from the field and 42% from beyond the arc against the Tide, but inaccuracy from the free-throw line and falling behind Nate Oats’ squad in the rebound category (44-36) led to Bucky McMillan’s fifth loss in his first season at the helm.

Graduate forward Rashaun Agee led the Aggies with 21 points, followed by Hill with 18 points. Texas A&M also saw continued production from the bench with 32 points in the efforts against the Tide. McMillan’s unit falls to 17-5 (7-2 in SEC play) so far, with another massive conference contest against the Florida Gators on deck.

While Wednesday’s performance against the Crimson Tide marked another devastating close SEC road loss for Texas A&M, the Aggies have continued to impress with their shooting ability, especially from range. Entering his first year at the helm, McMillan has brought his flashy, explosive offense to Aggieland and has the Maroon and White playing at an extremely high level. Sharpshooters like Hill, Rubén Dominguez and Rylan Griffen are showcasing just what ‘Bucky Ball’ can do with the right talent, displaying signs of a team determined to reach the postseason for the fourth consecutive season.

Texas A&M will have another opportunity to secure a Quad 1 victory at Reed Arena on Saturday night against No. 17 Florida. Tip-off against the Gators is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast live on the SEC Network.
