FORT WORTH – Deacon Eduardo García, 81, devoted servant of Christ, died Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at home surrounded by his loving family. Visitation: 5 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at Greenwood Funeral Home in Memorial Suites C & D, 3344 White Settlement Rd., Fort Worth, Texas 76107. Rosary: 6 p.m. Thursday, February 5, 2026, in Greenwood’s Live Oak Chapel, 3100 White Settlement Rd., Fort Worth, Texas 76107. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Friday, February 6, 2026, at St. Patrick Cathedral, 1206 Throckmorton St., Fort Worth, Texas 76102. Eduardo was born on October 13, 1944, in Monterrey, Mexico, to Jose Garcia Salas and Maria Luisa Garcia Paez. He was the second son of a family of six children. Eduardo with his sisters, Juani and Nieves, and brothers, Pepe, Gil, and Rafa filled the house with God, laughter, music, dancing and singing. As the eldest boy, Eduardo shouldered heavy financial responsibilities at a very young age, leaving school in only the 6th grade to help support his family. Eduardo fulfilled this duty with love, and his siblings’ life-long devotion to their brother was forged by their memories of Eduardo as the steady rock of their family from his teenage years to the end of his life. In 1967, Eduardo immigrated from Mexico to Fort Worth, the city he called home for the remainder of his life. He came in search of opportunity, as so many have before him…what he found was true love. He met Olga at a dance. Eduardo was a fantastic dancer, and he swept Olga off her feet. They wed on July 4, 1969, and were married for 56 years. Eduardo doted on Olga always, caring for her and placing their marriage first in his life. They were inseparable, and their marriage of mutual love, respect, patience, and fidelity was an example to everyone who encountered them. Eduardo and Olga were deeply committed to their Catholic faith, and after years of praying to God for a family, they were blessed with twin sons, Eduardo Jr. and Jose Enrique (Henry). Eduardo believed his boys were the greatest gift, the greatest treasure, the greatest answered prayer God had ever given him. So, he lived his life-from the day of their birth to his last day-loving them completely. He wrapped them in warm embraces every single time he saw them and every time he said goodbye. He never took for granted what a blessing God had bestowed on him in his twins and was happiest when he had his sons on either side of him. As a grandfather to Eduardo III, Eliana, Sofia, Maricela, Isabella, and Casey, Eduardo was incomparable-ready to play, dance, sing, fish, hold impromptu picnics, paint, swim, or make mischief when Olga and the parents weren’t looking. His grandchildren were the light of his life. He was (with Olga) the kid’s biggest cheerleaders attending all types of sporting events, recitals, concerts, plays, and musicals. Eduardo had worked many jobs in his lifetime, from selling lemons on the streets of Mexico and shining shoes as a boy to working at El Chico’s, Boswell’s Dairy, Justin Boots, and ultimately for 25 years at the Printing Center starting as a jogger moving up to Pressroom Supervisor. At the Printing Center, he made many friends who confided in him in many ways earning him the respect of his peers. But later in life, at 46 years old, Eduardo felt a call to serve the Lord. In 1989, he was accepted into the Permanent Diaconate Formation Program. Eduardo completed his GED and took college-level courses to fulfill his Diaconate requirements. He was ordained in 1995 by Bishop Joseph P. Delaney of the Diocese of Fort Worth and was assigned to St. Mathew’s Catholic Church in Arlington where he served for 20 years. As a deacon, Eduardo served God joyfully beside his good friend Monsignor Joseph Schumacher. He and his wife ministered to the parishioners 7 days a week, in baptisms, marriage retreats, wedding celebrations, and he tended to the sick and dying with a special grace, bringing hundreds of people comfort in their darkest hours. Ultimately, he was forced to retire in 2014 due to stage 4 cancer. With support and prayers from family and friends, and the good work of the medical staff at M.D. Anderson, he was blessed with another 11 years of life. For Eduardo, there was no task too big. He kept a positive attitude and never gave up. He invited new challenges and embraced discomfort with boundless energy and grit. Eduardo will be remembered for having the biggest smile ever seen. He was funny, bright, warm, and a people-person to the nth degree. He made friends everywhere he went, never knew a stranger, and brightened the lives of anyone who crossed his path. He would whistle, hum, or sing under his breath because his happiness could not be contained. At the end of his life, Eduardo suffered from a debilitating illness for six years. He withstood this test by relying on his faith in God, enduring his suffering with a grace and dignity that made believers in those who bore witness. During this time, Olga, Eddie and Henry tenderly cared for the man who had spent his life trying to be worthy of them. Eduardo’s lifetime of love inspired deep and profound devotion in his family and friends, because love and grace, when given freely, multiplies. His life was his testimony to God. The family wishes to recognize Margarita Rojas Mendoza, Samantha Robledo, Francisco Pina Jr., Oleisha Brown and Karla Gonzalez who lovingly helped care for Eduardo during his final years. Eduardo was preceded in death by his sister, Juana Maria; brother, Jose Refugio; sister-in-law, Irma Alcala; and brother-in-law, Rudy Bermejo. He is survived by his wife, Olga Garcia; sons, Eduardo Garcia Jr. and wife, Yolanda, and Jose Enrique Garcia and wife, Anna; beloved grandchildren, Eduardo III, Eliana, Sofia, Maricela, Isabella and Casey, whom he adored; his sister, Nieves Garcia; brothers, Rafael Garcia and wife, Gloria, Gilberto Garcia and wife, Nora, sisters-in-law, Esther Garcia and Ana Maria Bermejo; brothers-in-law, Antonio Garza, Julio Garcia and wife, Juanita, Fernando Garcia and wife, Guadalupe, and Ralph Garcia and wife, Sylvia; and countless nieces and nephews.
