El Paso has always been a city of storytellers, and some of our best stories are told through a lens. I’ve seen it firsthand. I’ve stood next to photographers crouched in alleyways chasing the perfect shadow, watched folks wait patiently for that desert light to break just right, and felt the genuine excitement when someone nails a shot they didn’t think was possible. That’s why this announcement feels so big.
In May 2026, El Paso will host one of the largest regional photography conventions in years.
The Gulf States Camera Club Council has officially announced that its 2026 Photography Convention, fittingly titled Photography Without Borders, is coming to downtown El Paso from May 28–30, 2026 at the DoubleTree by Hilton. And honestly, this feels like a long-overdue spotlight on a photography community that has been doing incredible work for years.
I’ve had the privilege of spending time with some of El Paso’s most passionate photographers, especially through groups like PEEP, a collective that consistently shows up to create space, elevate talent, and remind people that photography here isn’t a hobby, it’s a movement. These are folks who shoot because they have to, because documenting this city matters to them. Seeing a convention of this scale land here feels like validation of all that work.
The three-day event is expected to draw photographers from at least eight states, creating a massive exchange of ideas, styles, and perspectives. The schedule includes hands-on workshops, curated field trips around the region, social events, and keynote presentations from award-winning photographers. Whether you’re brand new to photography or have been shooting professionally for years, this convention is designed to meet you where you’re at.
Tim Holt, the local convention organizer, put it best when he said El Paso is a great venue for any photographer. Between our landscapes, architecture, culture, and people, this city is endlessly photogenic. Hosting a convention built around exploration and connection just makes sense.
If you’ve ever felt inspired by the photographers of El Paso, or if you’ve been looking for a reason to dive deeper into the craft, this is it. Photography Without Borders isn’t just coming to our city. It’s being shaped by the community that’s already here, ready to shine.
