The man who died in a tent during the winter storm in Fort Worth last week has been identified, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.

Kenneth Dwayne Riddle, 56, died around 12:49 p.m. in a homeless encampment, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Police responded to reports of an unresponsive person around 12:55 p.m. on Jan. 28 in the 6900 block of Northwest Loop 820.

First responders pronounced the man dead at the scene, according to a previous statement. His death is believed to be cold weather-related.

Police said homicide detectives were notified, which is normal protocol when investigating deaths.

During the last week of January, an arctic blast hit Texas, bringing ice and bone-chilling temperatures. At least 12 people died across the state — seven of those in North Texas — ranging in age from 6 to 78.
