HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The tiles are back on the table.
Mahjong, the centuries-old tile game, is having a moment. Amanda Commons and Nicole Cottone say they’ve seen how quickly interest has grown after starting a Mahjong teaching business called “That’s Amahjzing.”
“American Mahjong has been around since the 1930s, and it’s recently gained popularity amongst people of our generation,” Cottone shared.
The game can look complicated at first, but players say Commons and Cottone teach in a way that helps remove the intimidation factor.
“I really enjoy it because it’s something you can do with girlfriends,” One player said. “It’s just something to get your brain working, it’s a great game, and I love how it’s gained momentum in the last few years.”
In the video, the Houston duo gives us a crash course on Mahjong and takes us behind the fun, themed events they host.
