AUSTIN, Texas — A motor vehicle collision on Tuesday morning resulted in the death of a 59-year-old man, marking Austin’s eighth fatal crash of the year.

Austin Police Department officers responded to the scene at 1315 Mearns Meadow Boulevard at approximately 7:50 a.m., where they found a van had collided with a parked trailer on the west curb line. The driver, identified as Ezequiel Diaz Lopez, was the sole occupant of the van. He was transported to a hospital but later pronounced deceased, according to a press release from the Austin Police Department.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s eighth fatal crash of 2026, resulting in eight fatalities. On the same date in 2025, five fatal crashes had resulted in five deaths, the release noted. The investigation is ongoing, and fatality information may change as more details emerge.
