A pedestrian died when he was struck by an SUV while crossing a street in the Sunset Heights neighborhood, the El Paso Police Department said.

The collision occurred about 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, in the 300 block of West Rio Grande Avenue, near Los Angeles Drive, a news release by police spokeswoman Detective Judy Oviedo stated.

Arturo Frias Moreno, 57, was not on a crosswalk when he crossed in front of a 2014 Audi Q7 driven by Francisco Landa, 31, who was heading west on Rio Grande Avenue, police reported.

Frias Moreno was struck by the vehicle and taken to the hospital, but died of his injuries. An investigation by the Special Traffic Investigations Unit continues.
