HOUSTON, Texas — The University of New Mexico, after an opening weekend in which UNM swept both Western New Mexico and CSU Pueblo by 7-0 scores, steps up in the level of competition, taking on UTRGV and Houston, with both matches on the University of Houston campus.
Yu Yun “Kathy” Tsai was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week after going 4-0 over Western New Mexico and CSU Pueblo. Overall, all 10 players saw action in some form over the weekend. Bente Vandeputte made her Lobo debut at No. 1 singles, winning both matches.
The UTRGV Vaqueros are 1-3 on the season, with the lone win against Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Lobos will be UTRGV’s first opponent outside Texas. Houston is sitting at 5-0 on the season, and the Cougars have won all five matches by identical 4-0 scores.
