1. Kalahari Resorts could bring 1.2-million-square-foot resort, convention center to Allen

Kalahari Resorts has plans to bring its Africa-inspired resort and convention center model to North Texas. The resort development is being considered as a use for a 123-acre site at the southwest corner of SH 121 and Stacy Road in Allen, according to a news release from the city of Allen. Kalahari Resorts and Conventions is the creator of America’s largest indoor waterparks, the release states.

2. Kalahari could open proposed Allen location by 2030

Kalahari is on track to open a $950 million resort in North Texas by 2030. Allen City Council unanimously approved an economic incentive agreement for the project at a Feb. 25 meeting. The performance-based agreement includes potential tax rebates for the resort company, as well as requirements for details of the project like hotel rooms and convention center space, according to a presentation at the meeting.

3. Chicken N Pickle now open in Allen

Chicken N Pickle’s latest location in the Dallas-Fort Worth area opened in Allen earlier this month. The entertainment venue includes a restaurant and sports bar, and a dining area large enough to accommodate events. The venue has been developed on nearly 4 acres at The Farm in Allen, a 135-acre mixed-use development just south of the Sam Rayburn Tollway.

4. Texas Health launches clinic to serve uninsured, underinsured Collin County residents

A new clinic concept from faith-based, nonprofit health system Texas Health Resources aims to help Collin County residents with chronic diseases and limited access to health care, a news release from the hospital system states. The Texas Health Community Resource Center, located at the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Allen campus, opened May 15.

5. Costco store on Allen, McKinney border to open doors Aug. 15

An opening date has been set for a new Costco Wholesale store that is debuting in Allen. The store located just south of McKinney opened its doors at 8 a.m., Aug. 15, according to signage at the location. The wholesale store offers its members grocery products, pharmacy products, automotive services and more, according to its website.

6. Allen Premium Outlets marks 25 years with celebration, monthlong promotions

Representatives of Allen Premium Outlets held a celebration Oct. 1 to commemorate the shopping center’s 25th anniversary. Members of the community, including city leaders, business owners, representatives of the Allen Chamber of Commerce and more, gathered at the retail center for a 25th anniversary ribbon-cutting ceremony as well as a performance by the Allen High School Varsity Drumline. The shopping center opened in October 2000 with a roster of retailers that has continued to grow.
