1. Possible new ICE detention sites across Texas raise concerns
Plans to expand immigration detention capacity across Texas are raising new questions and concerns, especially in communities that already host large federal detention facilities.
2. Texas school voucher applications top 35,000 on first day
According to Acting Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts Kelly Hancock, there were over 35,000 students who signed up for the new Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) program on the first day it took applications. Hancock said in a post on X that the number “shattered” the application record for the first day of such a program.
3. Judson ISD board votes to oust superintendent after misconduct allegations surface
In the midst of financial woes and misconduct allegations, the Judson Independent School District board has started the process of terminating superintendent Milton Fields this week.
The divided board voted 4-3 to terminate Fields’ contract on Wednesday, the San Antonio Express-News reports.
