  • February 6, 2026

HOUSTON – Authorities are responding to a crash in Midtown involving a Houston detective and an overturned vehicle.

The crash was first reported around 3 p.m. at 3501 Travis Street, but the incident stems from a stolen vehicle reported earlier in the day around 7 a.m., according to HPD.

HPD said the stolen vehicle was spotted around Main and Holman Streets and a traffic stop was attempted. Police say the vehicle sped off and ran two stop lights. Air support was called in.

A female detective, unrelated to situation, was driving down Travis Street towards police headquarters before crashing with the stolen vehicle.

HPD says the crash resulted in the stolen vehicle overturning and catching on fire. The suspect allegedly kicked out the back window to escape, but officers were waiting to take him into custody.

Video obtained by KPRC 2 News shows officers attempting to remove an occupant from the overturned vehicle before detaining him.

The detective was transported to a hospital with injuries and minor burns, police say, but she is expected to be okay.

The suspect allegedly complained of back pain was was also taken to the hospital. He is being charged with car theft, evading and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to police.
