After a decade operating at The Rim shopping center, Mash’D — a restaurant and bar specializing in “Rebellious American” fare — will shut down Wednesday, Oct. 29, according to a social media post.
In the closure announcement, the Mash’D team said they’re exploring “relocation options in San Antonio,” suggesting the concept eventually may resurface elsewhere. The Current reached out for more details but got no response by press time.
As the closure date approaches, Mash’D is inviting fans to stop by for an “extra special brunch” on Saturday, Oct. 25, and Sunday, Oct. 26, according its announcement.
Mash’D was co-founded by David Kazarian, Rob Wechsler and Jay Clark, who dubbed themselves “the original culinary bastards.”
The trio’s concept, originally based in Dallas, focused on classic Southern cuisine with a gentleman’s touch. The San Antonio restaurant opened in 2015, and the chain also had units in Frisco and Fort Worth, both since closed.
The menu at Mash’D leaned heavy on elevated comfort-food faves, including hand-battered and house-brined crispy chicken with cheddar biscuits, caramel-moonshine French toast, burgers, tacos and a slate of pizza options.
The bar is known for its selection of moonshine-forward drinks, such as the Knockout Punch with blackberry and blueberry Ole Smokey Distillery moonshine.
Mash’D’s closure follows the departure of Rim standards The General Public and Bowl & Barrel, which closed earlier this year, and live-music venue The Rustic, which was abruptly shuttered in 2024. The Rustic space has since begun hosting pop-up concerts.
