Since its founding in 1983, the area nonprofit Trees for Houston has had a simple mission: to plant, protect, and promote trees. This morning, the organization celebrated the planting of its millionth tree in the Houston metro area.

In the video and audio above, Houston Matters producer Joshua Zinn visits the celebration and tree planting at the Kellum-Noble House near Sam Houston Park where he talked with Bary Ward, the executive director of Trees for Houston, about the organization’s work for the environment and beautification across the region.
