Widow speaks about eight months of grief after husband’s murder

  • February 6, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – For eight months, Serena Ward has replayed the same devastating scene in her mind, trying to understand how someone could take her husband’s life in their own home.

The Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit announced this week they have solved the 2025 central Lubbock shooting that left 33-year-old Roshaud Ward dead. For Serena, the news brought mixed emotions after months of uncertainty and fear.

The couple had been married only one year and shared a six-month-old baby that Roshaud never had the chance to meet. Serena was seven months pregnant when she discovered Roshaud’s body in May.

“I was seven months pregnant, but I was just so sick. How does one person deal with losing their husband? Not only that but I found him,” Ward said.

The circumstances surrounding the murder have haunted Serena as she tries to piece together what happened that day.

“There was no broken doors, there was no broken glass. There was no sign of a fight or struggle. No force entrance, so when I waked in and I seen him on the couch, I thought he was asleep,” Ward said.

The lack of obvious signs of a break-in has left Serena with troubling questions about how the killer gained access to their home.

“That’s my question, who let you in the house? What? How? How did you get in there? How did you know here we live,” Ward said.

Losing her husband affected every aspect of Serena’s life as she struggled to care for their children while processing her grief.

“They took away my peace; this has been a long eight months. Not knowing who did this, I was scared to come out the house, I was scared to speak to anybody because I didn’t know if the person I was looking at did it. They took my sanity,” Ward said.

Serena says her focus remains on her family and preserving her husband’s memory, choosing to remember the joy and positivity he brought to their lives.
