Dallas Fire-Rescue is investigating a camper fire that killed at least eight dogs at a homeless encampment in Dallas’ Rylie neighborhood on Thursday.

Firefighters were called around 10:28 a.m. to a fire inside a bumper-pull camper parked in an empty lot at 1720 Smoke Tree Lane, according to a news release from DFR.

Firefighters described the lot as a “homeless encampment” made up of multiple tents, the burned camper, and other makeshift shelters.

The fire was quickly extinguished but there were at least eight dogs that died inside the camper, firefighters said.
