Mild February Weather Continues

  • February 6, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Temperatures atypical for February highlight the next five to seven days. This weekend may be a pleasant surprise to some, though those who follow our forecast have known for days its on the way.

Best Time To Get Out

Friday and Saturday are looking like the best bets to be outside and enjoy the unusually nice February weather.

Sunny skies and highs 15 or more degrees above average will feel downright spring-like tomorrow. Adding to the pleasant conditions, as noted yesterday, a light northwesterly wind.

Anyone up for a picnic? In February? Or perhaps a walk or bike ride.

Early February Numbers

Take note of this number, 88°. That was the high temperature in Lubbock on this date, February 5, last year. It’s also the record high for the date.

This time of year Lubbock’s low and high temperature averages are 29° and 58°F, respectively. The record low temperature is 3°, on the date in 1982.

The Weekend

Saturday will be similar even though clouds will be on the increase during the day. Temperatures will peak as much as 20 degrees above typical early February highs. Winds may pick up slightly as they shift to southerly Saturday afternoon.

A mix of sun and clouds is expected Sunday, but the mild weather continues with highs still about 15 or more degrees above average.

Rain Chances Remain Low

The mild stretch continues into early next week, but a slight chance of rain showers develops late Monday and continues into Tuesday.

If these showers develop they may not interfere with plans you may have as they are expected to scattered and light. Temperatures, both day and night, will remain above freezing.

Watching The Long Term

Don’t put away your winter gear just yet. Longer range guidance has been hinting at, and continues to hint at, another potential cold air outbreak near — just before or after — Valentines’ Day.

On This Date

On this date in 2002, a strong upper level disturbance slowly moved into the South Plains area from the Central Rockies. A rain and snow mixture developed ahead of the system over most of the southern Texas Panhandle, South Plains, and Rolling Plains. The mixture gradually changed to all snow the next morning as the cold air deepened across the area. A swath of four to six inches of snow fell from the eastern South Plains into the northern Rolling Plains and extreme southeast Panhandle.
