Texas A&M (17-5, 7-2 SEC) dropped its second game in SEC Play after falling to Alabama 100-97 on Wednesday night, entering Tuscaloosa as an eight-point underdog, and leaving with another close loss on the road in a game that easily could have gone the other way.

Led by star forward Rashaun Agee (21 points) and senior guard Marcus Hill’s impressive 18-point performance after scoring 15 points during Saturday’s road win over Georgia, Texas A&M shot 49% from the field and 42% from beyond the arc with 13 made threes, the Aggie defense did not make enough stops to keep Alabama from making clutch shots late in the game.

However, several calls throughout the game affected the outcome, including a sudden possession reversal that led to an Alabama three-pointer after the Aggies led 95-94 with just over a minute remaining.

Combined with a missed 10-second violation, Texas A&M still had a shot to tie the game after Rashaun Agee’s missed free throw led to senior guard Rylan Griffen’s three-point attempt, which nearly went in to tie the game and force overtime. Nevertheless, this loss doesn’t move the needle much, while the Aggies will return to Reed Arena to face No. 17 Florida on Saturday night.

How did this loss affect Texas A&M’s NCAA Tournament seeding? According to CBS Sports’ latest Bracketology update, Texas A&M dropped from a 7-seed to an 8-seed, facing 9-seed Wisconsin. This was expected, and with seven wins in SEC play, the Aggies likely need three more victories to earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
