The Oswego School District 308 says it is not sanctioning or promoting protest walkouts planned for Friday afternoon and again next Friday, February 13, at Oswego and Oswego East high schools.

The protests are intended to demonstrate against continued Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity.

The district says it cannot remain responsible for student safety if students leave school property. However, officials note that students who gather outdoors on campus can be monitored and supervised. The district says safety is its primary concern.

District officials also say any absences related to the protests will be unexcused and are encouraging students and families to discuss ways to express their views while making safe and responsible choices.

Some students at Plano High walked out Friday morning in protest.
