Medical City Plano Hospital celebrated a major construction milestone as its upcoming $108 million expansion tracks to finish next year.
The gist
The hospital held a topping-out ceremony last month, marking the completion of the building’s frame in its expansion to the Sarah Cannon Cancer Hospital patient tower.
The $108 million project will expand the hospital’s footprint by 131,700 square feet, adding four stories and 90 patient beds. The project is expected to finish in spring 2027, according to a news release from Medical City.
The expansion will also move the hospital’s ground helipads to the roof, enabling “faster, more direct access” to the operating room, the release states.
Quote of note
“Achieving this milestone reflects our ongoing commitment to advancing the future of healthcare in North Texas,” Medical City Plano CEO Ben Coogan said in the release. “Every phase of this project is designed to bring leading‑edge technology, modern clinical environments and enhanced capabilities to our patients and caregivers. This project is one of the most significant expansions in our hospital’s 50-year history.”
One more thing
Medical City Plano is also undergoing a $25.8 million renovation of the hospital’s support areas, including environmental services, supply chain, laboratory and food and nutrition spaces. That project is expected to complete this fall, according to the release.
