AUSTIN, Texas — Central Texas nonprofit Seedling says 47 local students are waiting to be matched with mentors, with the highest need in South Austin (Austin ISD) and Kyle (Hays CISD).
The organization supports children who have a parent in jail or prison, a circumstance that can increase the risk of academic and behavioral challenges and often carries stigma.
“When a child loses a parent to incarceration, they lose possibly the most significant person in their life,” Seedling notes in its outreach.
