Texas A&M (17-5, 7-2 SEC) heads back to Reed Arena for the first time in nearly two weeks after back-to-back road tests against Georgia and Alabama, finishing 1-1 after defeating the Bulldogs and falling to the Crimson Tide 100-97 on Wednesday night. Tied with No. 17 Florida atop the SEC standings, the Aggies will host the red-hot Gators on Saturday night.

Winning three out of five SEC road games thus far this season, first-year head coach Bucky McMillan has his veteran team playing at an extremely high level, and if it weren’t for a questionable call combined with a circus shot from Alabama guard Aden Holloway, Texas A&M would likely be 8-1 in SEC play. Still, moral victories don’t exist, and McMillan has his team laser-focused on Florida, which serves as the most challenging matchup this season.

After three consecutive blowout wins over Mississippi State, South Carolina, and Georgia, the Aggies were bound to drop another road game, and as we’ve witnessed during Alabama head coach Nate Oats’ tenure, winning in Tuscaloosa is a nearly impossible task, and the Aggies almost pulled it off. Serving as a Quad 1A loss, Texas A&M dropped just one spot in the NET rankings before hosting Florida.

On Friday, Bucky McMillan spoke to the media, providing his usual dose of basketball knowledge and humor, praising the Florida Gators‘ elite front court and returning talent after winning last season’s National Title, knowing that the size difference will play a significant role in how they attack the paint.

Focused on sophomore forward Jamie Vinson, who scored an efficient 9 points against Alabama, several beat writers asked McMillan if the Texas transfer will see more playing time on Saturday, which remains to be seen. McMillan also noted that, amid the blackout at Reed Arena, his team needs to avoid a roller coaster of emotions.

“You want your team to not be too high, too low, authentic killer intensity…”

Texas A&M is currently 4-0 in blackout games during the Buzz Williams era.

Texas A&M will host Florida on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and will air on the SEC Network.
