Approximately 100 students walked out of Round Rock Early College High School on Friday in a peaceful, student-organized protest opposing Immigration and Customs Enforcement actions in Minneapolis and other cities across the country.
The walkout was planned by students and took place during the school day, with participants leaving their classrooms and gathering together on campus.Â
The protest comes amid heightened political attention, as Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has called for investigations into similar student-led demonstrations in Austin and Hays County. Those calls have brought statewide focus to a growing movement of youth activism, with students across Texas organizing walkouts to voice concerns about immigration policy and civil rights.
