BUDA, Texas — A Texas student is sharing her story after a fight with an adult man during an anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement protest, KEYE reported.
A student-led anti-ICE protest at Johnson High School in Buda turned violent on Monday.
The chaotic scene was caught on camera, and the altercation quickly escalated to involve several people.
“It just felt, like, so crazy,” said Alissa Loredo.
Alissa shared her story of the brawl that broke out after a man in a truck began arguing with a student.
“She kicks the truck. She just kicks the truck one time, and that’s it. And that’s the moment that he got mad. He reached for his door. He decides to get off the vehicle and starts to come straight to the girl and starts to attack her,” Alissa said.
Alissa says video shows the moment she got involved.
“He kind of basically got on top of her and started to hit the girl. So, in that moment, I reacted. I went and I pulled the guy off, and that’s when I hit him. Everybody comes and attacks him, and that’s just when it escalates from there. And like everybody starts attacking him, and some people are trying to break it off, obviously,” Alissa said.
Chad Michael Watts, 45, was arrested and faces two misdemeanor charges of assault causing bodily injury.
“He should have known better. Like, if he’s an adult, he could have just easily let the girl hit the car, park to the side, call the police, and call it a day. But, like, he decided to get off of the car and do what he did, and his actions led to what it did, and that caused everything, and it just escalated from there,” Alissa said.
Alissa’s father, Jose Loredo, says he was furious when his daughter told him that Watts grabbed her by her hair.
“I was really, really mad. You know, we are grownups. You know, we’re not little kids. And, you know, him hitting girls, females, you’re not supposed to do that. He could have just left, you know. No reason to pull over and get off his car,” he said.
Buda police say the investigation is continuing and are asking witnesses to share unedited video so they can get a full picture of what happened.
“Based on witness testimony, authentic original videos, to see and working in consultation with the Hays County District Attorney’s office to see what case… if there are any charges that will be applicable or if not. But we want to be thorough in this investigation to make sure that everybody is held accountable that needs to be held accountable,” said Matt Schima with the Buda Police Department.
Watts did not immediately respond to local media outlets’ attempt to hear his side of the story.
County officials say they have no record that he currently has an attorney.
