EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — An El Pasoan will audition for “American Idol” on Monday.
Julian Kalel will have his audition aired on Monday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m. on ABC.
Kalel expressed his excitement on Instagram, saying, “Still feels unreal — I can’t wait to share this moment with you all.”
Kalel started writing songs at the age of 16.
Kalel has been an advocate for mental health.
“I realized those same chords could become ropes for others to grab onto. Anxiety doesn’t care how old you are. Depression lies. Sometimes, the only way out is through a melody,” Kalel states in his website.
“My music is where brokenness meets hope – where Americana grit connects with modern country soul. These songs are my truth. The struggles, the faith, the hard-won hope. If you’ve ever needed music that understands what you’re going through, you’ve found it here,” he said.
