A wildfire that broke out in Sam Houston National Forest near Montgomery on Saturday had been contained at 85 acres as of 1:30 p.m., officials said.
U.S. Forest Service firefighters have stopped the fire’s advance but remained on the scene to monitor for hot spots, the agency said on social media. A section of the Lonestar Hiking Trail was closed while firefighters battled the blaze.
The fire was not part of a prescribed burn and its cause was unknown as of Saturday afternoon, Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough said on social media. Firefighters had used helicopters to drop water on the blaze, Keough said.

The fire did not pose any threat to adjacent areas, Keough said, but he asked people to avoid the area. The blaze broke out near FM 1375 and FM 149, he said, part of the national forest about 60 miles north of Houston.
