Tax season is here, and as Houston-area residents begin filing, some may need help.
Several Houston organizations are offering free tax assistance, with eligibility that varies by taxpayers’ income. Here’s where you can get free tax help.
University of Houston-Downtown
The University of Houston-Downtown is offering income tax assistance for the 2025 tax year through its VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program. The service is available to people who earn $67,000 or less and to seniors 65 and older.
Taxpayers can access virtual and in-person assistance from Feb. 7 through April 14. The site will be closed March 10-14.
In person hours:
Tuesday-Friday: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Shea Street Building, 320 N. Main St., Room B226, second floor
Saturday: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at One Main Building, library, fourth floor, Rooms N412-N414

Cypress Assistance Ministries
Cypress Assistance Ministries and BakerRipley Neighborhood Tax Centers are offering tax help for 2026.
Taxpayers can visit CAM at 12930 Cypress North Houston Road from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Feb. 6 through April 10.
Memorial Assistance Ministries
Memorial Assistance Ministries will offer free walk-in tax preparation for families and individuals with income of $58,000 or less.
Services are available now through April 15, Monday-Friday from 1 p.m.-7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. at 1625 Blalock Road, Houston, TX 77080.

Chinese Community Center
The Chinese Community Center will offer tax assistance at 9800 Town Park Drive from Feb. 3 through April 14. Services are available to families and individuals who make $67,000 or less.
Tuesdays and Thursdays: 1 p.m.-5 p.m.
Saturdays: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
