Texas center Matas Vokietaitis poured in a game-high 27 points on 9-for-11 from the field and 9-for-12 from the foul line. He scored 16 of Texas’ 37 points in the first half to help push the Longhorns to a 37-25 lead at the break, but Ole Miss made its first nine shots of the second half to tighten things up.
Longhorns head coach Sean Miller said the Rebels’ offense to begin the frame was “as good as we’ve seen.”
“They made some contested 2s and hit a lot of good shots,” he said. “Coming off of how we defended in the first half, it was a completely different game. For a while there, I didn’t think they were going to miss.”

Miller was quick to credit his players for staying with it while the Rebels erased the big halftime lead.
“If things dont’t go well at home, you can sometimes let one segment of the game just continue and say that it’s not our day. We did not do that,” Miller said. “We continued the fight. We rallied, and I thought the final eight minutes of the half were a better level for us.”
Miller said Vokietaitis’ bounce-back performance was the difference in the game. After a subpar performance against South Carolina, Miller and the 7-footer had several discussions about not letting frustration dictate how he plays.

“He played his best game of the SEC season today,” Miller said. “You forget how many times a guy like him can get fouled, too. It was great to see him bounce back.”
Tramon Mark finished with 19 points on 8-for-14 shooting with five rebounds and four assists for the Longhorns. Pope scored 13 and Swain finished with seven points and nine rebounds. Ole Miss limited Swain, No. 7 in the SEC in scoring coming into the game at 17.7 points per game, to five shots.
Texas outrebounded Ole Miss 36-27 and scored 20 second-chance points off nine offensive rebounds. Led by Vokietaitis, Texas dominated the paint by outscoring the Rebels 32-16.
Eduardo Klafke scored 16 points on 7-for-10 shooting for the Rebels.
