Texans are obsessed with many things, but there’s a love that many run to H-E-B for: the chain’s bakery butter flour tortillas – a staple honored in H-E-B’s Super Bowl commercial on February 8.
H-E-B regularly releases commercials to air during the Super Bowl. For Super Bowl LX, the San Antonio-based grocery store’s 60-second commercial was broadcast between the third and fourth quarters in more than a dozen key Texas markets.
Celebrating the cult-classic item, H-E-B centers its Super Bowl ad on a Texas toddler gearing up for their first tortilla bite (just add more butter in the tortilla, and it’s puro San Antonio. Throughout the commercial, the toddler is fed baby food, but yearns for the H-E-B tortillas. Don’t worry, the toddler gets their wishes granted and enjoys a tortilla at the end.
It makes sense for H-E-B to celebrate the beloved product. People love the tortillas so much that one even stuffed 200 H-E-B tortillas into their carry-on luggage. Last June, H-E-B also passed out 5,000 tortillas to lucky passengers at the San Antonio airport. Yes, the tortillas are TSA-approved.
H-E-B has even advertised the tortillas before during the Super Bowl game in 2023, saying, If you know-you know.”
“We always look forward to our Big Game commercials because they allow us to have a little fun with our fans and their favorite H-E-B products,” Ashwin Nathan, H-E-B Group vice president of marketing, stated in a news release. “There is something special about the bond between H-E-B and Texans, and these commercials are our way of celebrating and connecting with them during the biggest game of the year.”
