“Plano has always moved forward,” said Mayor Muns in his opening remarks. “From our roots as a small farming community to the dynamic, interconnected city we are today, our growth has been purposeful. We evolve to meet the needs of our residents and thoughtfully prepare for those who will call Plano home in the years ahead.”

Awards and Recognitions

Plano received numerous awards and recognitions throughout the past year, including Best Texas City for Individuals with Disabilities (WalletHub), Best Places to Raise a Family in 2025 (WalletHub), Happiest City in Texas (Smart Asset), and three statewide awards for outstanding planning.

Global Business Leaders

Highlighting our city’s “global leaders and new partners who share our vision for excellence,” the address noted the arrival of Sally Beauty headquarters, Delta Electronics, Ryan, Simpson Strong-Tie, Nature’s Toolbox, USAA, Aligned Data Center, and Sysgration. Specific to healthcare development, Texas Health Presbyterian’s new tower, Medical City Plano’s expansion, and renovations at Children’s Health were cited. Future plans were noted, including the Miyako Hotel, redevelopment of 2700 Plano Parkway, AT&T, and Texas Research Quarter.

Utilities, Infrastructure, and Public Transportation

Upgrades of city water and sewer lines are underway now. Improvements are also being made to local intersections, and continuing resurfacing of major corridors is planned for the year to come. Speaking live, Mayor Muns also addressed the “honest conversations about DART and regional transit” currently in progress, specifically regarding the ability of the current mass transit system to serve Plano in years to come. “These are decisions that belong to our residents,” he said. “We want everyone to be informed about transit options ahead of this year’s election.” Click here for more information.

Law Enforcement, Fire Department, and Public Safety

Officers now have a new mobile command unit for critical incidents, and Plano’s new public safety campus and training academy will soon begin construction. The remodeling of Fire Station 5 has been completed, and Plano Fire-Rescue became the first all-paid fire department in Texas to approve a 24-72 schedule. Plano remains one of the safest cities in America, continuing a steady drop in both the major crime rate and property crime rate since 2024.

Parks, Recreation, and Culture

Mayor Muns noted Plano’s 86 beautiful parks as one of the key differentiators of our community. “You can step out your door and find green space, art, recreation, and community all within a few minutes from home,” he said. Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center re-opened in December with a new children’s play pool structure and resurfaced track and gym floor. Looking ahead, Mendomi and Glasscock Parks are planned within the Legacy Business District, and Ravenglass Park, currently in progress, will represent the city’s newest park addition. The new City of Plano Cultural Arts Comprehensive Plan will support five strategic goals, moving forward.

Community Partnerships

Several partnerships were highlighted as contributing to the “heartbeat of our community,” including education-focused programs within Plano ISD, Collin College, and Paul Quinn College. In addition, the Mayor’s Summer Internship Program and Plano ISD Back to School Fair also help to support student success. Plano’s robust support of the North Texas Food Bank’s annual Peanut Butter Drive was noted, along with the city’s Volunteers in Plano program. Of special note, more than 5,000 volunteers use this city portal each year.
