A man was shot and killed, and another was injured early Monday morning after a disturbance during a gathering at a Fort Worth apartment, according to police.

Officers were called just before 3 a.m. to the 500 block of Cabral Circle for reports of shots fired, Fort Worth police Officer Buddy Calzada said at the scene.

When officers arrived, they found a man with at least one gunshot wound. Officers administered medical aid until Fort Worth Fire crews arrived.

That man died at the scene.

Investigators believe several people were inside the apartment for a social gathering when another man showed up armed and entered the unit. A disturbance broke out almost immediately, Calzada said, and the armed man began shooting.

Someone inside the apartment returned fire, striking the man who arrived with the weapon. That man is the one who died at the scene.

A second man inside the apartment was shot and taken to a hospital, where he was last listed in stable condition.

Police did not say how the armed man entered the apartment or whether anyone involved knew each other. Detectives are still interviewing witnesses who stayed at the scene, Calzada said. The number of people inside the apartment at the time of the shooting remains unclear.

No weapon description was available, and police have not announced any arrests. Investigators also have not determined whether the person who returned fire could face charges.
