History

AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia Texas women’s basketball team traded blows with Austin College through three quarters but couldn’t withstand the visitors’ late surge, falling 65–53 on Saturday inside the Deb & Don Christian Fieldhouse.

Concordia opened strong, knocking down three early threes and controlling the first quarter 16–11 behind the play of Katelyn Tietjen and Taysie Trejo. The Tornados forced seven ties and four lead changes throughout the night, but a cold second quarter (3–17 shooting) allowed Austin to close the gap 24–28 at halftime.

The third quarter stayed within one or two possessions as CTX continued to defend and rebound at a high level, ultimately finishing with 45 total boards and 20 offensive rebounds. Aja Holmes provided a major spark off the bench, scoring 14 points and keeping the Tornados within striking distance entering the final frame.

Austin College then delivered the decisive push, erupting for 26 fourth‑quarter points behind Trinity Williams’ downhill scoring and late free throws. CTX continued to battle—cutting the margin multiple times—but Austin’s efficiency from the line (17–24) and ability to convert turnovers into points (20) created separation down the stretch.
