EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — An El Paso man was arrested and charged with DWI after having a child in his vehicle on Tuesday.
Deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office arrested 45-year-old Anthony Alonzo.
Deputies stopped a gray Chevrolet Avalanche with New Mexico plates for a defective tail lamp.
Alonzo was found to be intoxicated with an 11-month-old child in the back seat, not properly secured in a car seat, officials said.
The child was safely released to a family member.
A breath test showed Alonzo’s blood alcohol concentration was 0.092.
Alonzo was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Under 15 Years of Age.
“Driving while intoxicated is dangerous under any circumstance, but placing a child at risk in this manner is completely unacceptable,” said Sheriff Oscar Ugarte. “Our deputies will continue working to keep our community safe and hold those who endanger others accountable.”
