Tarp and food packaging manufacturer to open new Houston County facility

  • February 9, 2026

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) – J&M Industries, Inc. announced plans on Monday to open a new manufacturing and distribution facility at the Houston County Distribution Park.

The new 70,000 square feet facility is a major expansion effort for the Ponchatoula, Louisiana, based tarp and food packaging manufacturer, and in exploring all options for the company’s long-term growth plans, their leadership decided Houston County was a natural fit.

“Dothan and Houston County stood out to us because of their strong workforce, central location, and welcoming business climate,” said J&M managing owner Maurice Gaudet, IV. “As a family-owned company, we value partnerships and community, and we believe this is the right place for J&M to continue growing for years to come.”

“J&M’s decision to locate in the Houston County Distribution Park speaks volumes about the strength of our infrastructure and the pro-business environment we’ve worked hard to create,” said Houston County Commission Chairman Brandon Shoupe on the announcement. “This project brings quality jobs to our community and reinforces Houston County’s position as a competitive destination for industry.”

Working with the 53-year-old family-owned company in bringing this facility to Houston County was a largely collaborative effort, with the city of Dothan and state leaders, including State Senator Donnie Chesteen, R-Geneva, and State Representatitve Paul Lee, R-Dothan, also pitching in to help secure this facility for the benefit of the economic vitality of the city and county.

“This investment by J&M is another example of how Dothan and Houston County are working together to attract growing, family-owned companies,” said Dothan Mayor Mark Saliba. “We are proud to welcome J&M and look forward to the positive impact this facility will have on our local economy.”

“Economic development projects like this one demonstrate the confidence companies have in Southeast Alabama,” said Chesteen and Lee in a joint statement. “J&M’s investment in Houston County will provide meaningful job opportunities and further strengthen our region’s role in Alabama’s industrial and distribution network.”

Local and state officials will continue to work with J&M as this project moves towards groundbreaking and eventual operations, with the new facility expected to create around 10 to 15 new full-time jobs locally.

Construction is expected to begin by the fourth quarter of 2026, with completion projected for 2027.
