A longtime summer escape for South Texas families is coming to an end, marking the loss of Corpus Christi’s only waterpark and a popular alternative to the beach.
Hurricane Alley Waterpark has announced it is permanently closing after 15 seasons of business. The waterpark shared the news on Friday, February 6, calling the decision “heartfelt” and thanking the community for more than a decade of support.
“Since opening our gates in 2012, Hurricane Alley has been a place for sunshine, laughter, first rides, big splashes, and even bigger memories,” the announcement read. “None of that would have been possible without our incredible community.”
As the park prepares to shut down, officials said guests who purchased 2026 season passes will automatically receive refunds to the original form of payment. Anyone with questions about refunds is encouraged to contact the park at info@hacctx.com.
Community reaction poured in quickly, with many expressing sadness and frustration in the comments.
“I’m sad to hear it’s closing. This comes in handy because a lot of families are on a budget, and this place is affordable to many families. So sad,” Susan Lichtenberger wrote.
Others echoed similar sentiments, calling the park a staple for locals.
“We really hate to see you go. It was a nice go-to for locals,” Mandy Renfro commented.
Some residents worried about what remains for families seeking summer activities in the city.
“Whhaaaaaat no way!!! Now we have nothing,” Miranda Matocha wrote.
Another commenter noted the broader trend of closures in the area.
“So sad. Another one bites the dust. I can’t understand why good things leave CC,” Linda Hand wrote.
The closure news came amid another loss for the local business community. Blue Frog Mercantile, a Corpus Christi shop that had been open for about 20 years, announced it would close within hours of Hurricane Alley’s post.
Together, the announcements mark a tough moment for the Coastal Bend, as residents say goodbye to two familiar local fixtures that helped shape the city’s sense of community.
