Corpus Christi police say a 47-year-old man has died after being shot during a family disturbance last week. A suspect was arrested, and charges may be upgraded.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A man has died days after being shot during a family disturbance in the southside of Corpus Christi, according to the Corpus Christi Police Department.
The shooting happened last Wednesday around 6:26 p.m. at the 4000 block of Ranch Lake Drive near Yorktown Boulevard and Sun Valley Drive.
CCPD Public Information Officer Madeline Vaughn said officers arrived to find a 47-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound and provided first aid until medics arrived. He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, where he later died.Â
His name has not been released by officials at this time.
CCPD Lieutenant David Saldana told 3NEWS on the night of the incident that the shooting stemmed from a family disturbance at a residence. Vaughn later confirmed all parties involved knew each other.Â
Several people were detained at the scene while officers investigated.
51-year-old Veronica Montoya was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.Â
It was not immediately clear whether her charge will be upgraded following the victim’s death. Officials with CCPD believe her charges will be upgraded, but couldn’t say when.Â
Vaughn said the incident is considered isolated and remains under investigation.
