Dennis Lal will assume the role of executive director of UTA’s Center for Innovation in Health Informatics, effective immediately.
The center draws from the strengths and knowledge of multiple professions and disciplines with the goal of transitioning “sick care” to “health care,” according to its website.
Through partnerships, the center uses health informatics approaches to support data-driven initiatives that impact health and introduce and assess various enabling tools in all aspects of living and learning, according to the website.
Before assuming the position, Lal served as an associate professor of neurology and director of the Center for Neurogenetics at UTHealth Houston. As the director of the center, Lal founded and led a system-wide precision neurogenetics program where he integrated clinical genetics, advanced bioinformatics and digital infrastructure into routine neurological care and research.
Lal also serves as the assistant vice president and executive scientist of precision health at Cook Children’s Health Care System. He is also an active member of the American Society for Human Genetics and the International League Against Epilepsy Genetics Consortium.
“Dr. Lal brings extensive experience leading interdisciplinary research initiatives that align with CIHI’s mission and with UTA’s broader commitment to accelerating discovery, translating innovation into practice, and cementing our leadership in the field of biomedical research,” said Kate Miller, vice president for research and innovation, in an email.
